It’s a creative medium, but it’s also a language.” -Tormod Askildsen, Senior Dr. at LEGO® in Brickumentary Language.
It's so important. 7/11/2016 0 Comments Creativity Is For Everyone366 Days of Creativity Week 28 in Review: July 8th - 14thHave you ever thought....
I can't do that. That's not me. I'm not good enough. Other people are way better at that. I'm not the creative type. 7/7/2016 2 Comments Creativity Loathes Perfection366 Days of Creativity Week 27 in Review: July 1st - 7thIt was only a matter of time before I wrote about perfectionism.
How often do you want to have everything figured out before you start? Be prepared for exactly what is to come? 366 Days of Creativity Week 26 in Review: June 24th - June 30th“What one loves in childhood stays in the heart forever.” Want to know something cool I re-discovered?
6/23/2016 1 Comment Creativity and the Everyday366 Days of Creativity Week 25 in Review: June 17th - June 23rdI was reminded today about Elizabeth Gilbert's book Big Magic (see my LEGO® creation thoughts on instagram for how). Her book is actually one of the reasons I started this 366 project. She talks about ideas leaving you if you don't commit to them. I have ideas for building with bricks helping people. I also wasn't ready to jump into full action on those ideas this year. But I didn't want the ideas to leave me, so this 366 project came to me and I say yes. Because it keeps me in the LEGO® zone and shows I am committed. And it's taking me to places I never expected to be - hello BrickFest and soon to be BrickFiesta. And I can't wait to really let my ideas come to fruition, hopefully next year, and be surprised where they take me then.
6/16/2016 0 Comments Creativity Leads to the Unexpected366 Days of Creativity Week 24 in Review: June 10th - June 16thI never could have predicted the creation I would make on Day 168. Never. It's just not me or my style.
The path was paved by my word of the year - "Magic." Since it's my word of the year I pay attention when I see or hear it. 6/9/2016 0 Comments Creativity Takes Action366 Days of Creativity Week 23 in Review: June 3rd - June 9thI've had a lot of quotes recently about not waiting for inspiration.
This is true. I've said before sometimes I have an idea of what to build after reading the art quote, but most of the time I just start building and then an idea will come. Then I rework the creation. I've discovered recently in life that knowing how inspiration and creativity work together has been very helpful. 6/2/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Yoga366 Days of Creativity Week 22 in Review: May 27th-June 2ndOne of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try out new yoga studios and classes.
I love my familiar yoga studio and home practice, but you also know I love to discover new things! 5/26/2016 1 Comment Creativity with Photos366 Days of Creativity Week 21 in Review: May 20th-26thYou may have noticed I've been branching out with trying to tell a story not only with the creations, but with how I photograph them.
5/19/2016 0 Comments Creativity When You Are Tired366 Days of Creativity Week 20 in Review: May 13th-19th & Days 134-140I've not wanted to build several days this week.
I've been busy, tired, and have too often left it until the end of the day, which is never good for me mentally. It was in those moments that I did it anyways, but at the same time I gave myself permission to do it differently, and I think in some ways it turned out more creative. 5/12/2016 4 Comments Creativity and Playing366 Days of Creativity Week 19 in Review: May 6th-12th & Days 127-133Okay, how to make re-writing this blog post that I accidentally deleted when trying to change the font size fun? Please leave comments and let me know :)
But I will go with the flow, and here we go! I have been inspired by a woman who works at a local yarn store. 5/5/2016 2 Comments Creativity and Protection366 Days of Creativity Week 18 in Review: April 29th-May 5th & Days 120-126 Day 124:
"Here stood a tangible symbol of the very meaning of working with intention - knowing both my gifts and my limits, my calling and my opportunities that need a 'no' and being at peace with understanding the difference. To give myself the time and freedom to create the best art, and to confidently turn down those roles and opportunities that aren't the best fit." -Tsh Oxenreider 4/28/2016 1 Comment Creativity and Compassion366 Days of Creativity Week 17 in Review: April 22nd-28th & Days 113-119 I feel like this week was about compassion. Maybe that's because my newsletter this week was about Brené Brown's guidepost on self-compassion so it was on my mind, but to me the quotes I pulled all tied into compassion:
4/22/2016 1 Comment Creativity and Trust366 Days of Creativity Week in Review: April 15th-21st & Days 106-112 What have I learned about creativity this week from playing with LEGO bricks everyday and reading art quotes?
4/15/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Imagination366 Dyas of Creativity Week in Review: 4.8.16-4.14.16Bob Proctor was the guest on a podcast I was listening to this week and he said, "Imagination is magic!"
I love that. I think this experiment in large part is about re-awakening my imagination. 4/7/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Love366 Days of Creativity Week in Review: 4.1.16-4.7.16Creating everyday, whether or not you feel like it.
I guess it makes sense some days I would really like what I create and some days feel like I have no idea really where I'm going or I do something and don't really love it. But maybe if I never created or created only sporadically I would never get to the ones I love. 3/31/2016 0 Comments Creativity and InspirationWeek in Review: 3.25.16-3.31.16Can't believe I'm three months done. My art quote jar is almost empty so I've been working on getting the next batch ready. I am a quote collector and already had a document started and added more from my various places. Then I counted - 70! Oh no! I needed 270+. Thankfully my friend who gave me the quotes in the first place came to my rescue and had so many more. So I've been printing, cutting, and stuffing into my jar. So many quotes!
3/24/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Letting GoWeek in Review: 3.18.16-3.24.16To me the word LEGO means a lot. I wrote in January about the actual meaning of the word LEGO but I'll repeat it here. From Lego.com: "The name 'LEGO' is an abbreviation of the two Danish words 'leg godt', meaning 'play well'." I love that meaning and to me it emphasizes a major theme I am working on this year (thus one of the reasons for having created a magical play creative workshop series to encourage others to join in). But the word LEGO also means more to me. The picture above is from my courage cork board and I liked how I could use the letters of LEGO with the addition of only a few letters to mean a few other themes as well.
LEtGO and LEtGOd. 3/18/2016 0 Comments Creativity Outside the BoxWeek in Review: 3.11.16-3.17.16So I know everyone who is reading this has seen the movie: A LEGO Brickumentary.
Oh you haven't. Well it's a documentary, about LEGO bricks. If you need to know more check it out on Amazon. In the Brickumentary, there is a competition as part of an event were people were challenged to build something of their own, but using the same LEGO kits. So, on day 72 when I was feeling uninspired, God sent His inspiration (reference to the Day 72 quote, see the slideshow below with the week's creations and quotes) and gave me the idea to try the same exercise with one of the LEGO kits my sweet husband had bought me. 3/11/2016 1 Comment Creativity SpeaksWeek in Review: 3.4.26 - 3.10.16This past week I feel like I've gotten lots of messages about work and money and rest and doing your best. The messages came in many forms - quotes, LEGO creating, people, gifts, and more ways I'm sure I just can't remember.
I continue to hear don't worry about the money and it's not about money. Week in Review: 2.26.16-3.3.16“A painting is never finished – it simply stops in interesting places.” –Paul Gardner Well, that may be true for paintings but not for LEGO™ creations that you take apart!!
2/26/2016 0 Comments Creativity and The UnknownWeek in Review: 2.19.16-2.25.16If you read my last Week in Review you know I was going to try and PLAY without an end creation in mind.
It was actually a bit challenging. |
