9/18/2016 0 Comments Creativity Experiments366 Days of Building Creativity Week 38 in Review: September 16th-September 22nd"I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your world need not be lost; that is where they would be. Now put the foundations under them." My 2016 Experiment of building a LEGO creation everyday seems quite tame when I read about Thoreau's two year experiment of living in the woods simply.
9/15/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Soul Care366 Days of Building Creativity Week 37 in Review: September 9th-September 15thThis week was a raw and vulnerable week for me. Changes in what I've been eating and drinking have led me to recognize I try to comfort myself with what I put into my body more than I had even realized. Also starting a new training which was all weekend left me not recharged or ready for the week. So needless to say I've been experiencing a lot of the more uncomfortable feelings and my tear ducts have been getting plenty of action.
So this week, I've been learning I am a creative soul, and creativity is care for my soul. 9/1/2016 0 Comments Creativity In Layers366 Days of Building Creativity Week 36 in Review: September 2nd-September 8thIn the beginning, I had few LEGO® bricks.
Keeping my daily creations would have really limited my future creations so I took each one apart after I took my photo. It was day 51 that I first kept a creation around for a bit, the quote was about painting being unfinished and I heard that my creation may be unfinished. 8/29/2016 0 Comments Creativity Makes Rainbow Paths366 Days of Building Creativity Week 35 in Review: August 26th-September 1st"I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash I've gotten a new journal and it's changing my life because it's having me make goals in all categories of my life and get really clear on things. 366 Days of Building Creativity Week 34 in Review: August 19th-25th"We find ourselves caught in this cycle of keeping track of the wrong things. Keeping track of how many times we've been rejected, keeping track of how many times it didn't work, keeping track of all the times someone has broken our heart, or double crossed us, or let us down. Of course we can keep track of those things but why? Why keep track of them? Are they making us better? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep track of the other stuff. To keep track of all the times that worked. All the times we took a risk. All the times we were able to brighten someone else's day. That when we start doing that we can redefine ourselves as people who are able to make an impact on the world." I had a great chance to practice keeping track of the right stuff when a recent group I was offering didn't meet the minimum number to have a beneficial group experience.
8/18/2016 0 Comments Creativity Changes You366 Days of Building Creativity Week 33 in Review: August 12th-18thI wonder how this experiment would have been different if I was just free building every day without pulling an art quote first?
The art quotes are magical. They are like daily permission slips to take the time to do this experiment. They are my encouragers, my normalizers, my supporters, my allies. 8/11/2016 0 Comments Creativity is Courageous8/3/2016 0 Comments Creativity Resists7/28/2016 0 Comments Creativity is Hard Work7/18/2016 0 Comments Creativity Has Many Languages366 Days of Creativity Week 29 in Review: July 15th - 21st “It’s a creative tool. It’s a creative medium, but it’s also a language.” -Tormod Askildsen, Senior Dr. at LEGO® in Brickumentary Language.
It's so important. 7/11/2016 0 Comments Creativity Is For Everyone366 Days of Creativity Week 28 in Review: July 8th - 14thHave you ever thought....
I can't do that. That's not me. I'm not good enough. Other people are way better at that. I'm not the creative type. 7/7/2016 2 Comments Creativity Loathes Perfection366 Days of Creativity Week 27 in Review: July 1st - 7thIt was only a matter of time before I wrote about perfectionism.
How often do you want to have everything figured out before you start? Be prepared for exactly what is to come? 366 Days of Creativity Week 26 in Review: June 24th - June 30th“What one loves in childhood stays in the heart forever.” Want to know something cool I re-discovered?
6/23/2016 1 Comment Creativity and the Everyday366 Days of Creativity Week 25 in Review: June 17th - June 23rdI was reminded today about Elizabeth Gilbert's book Big Magic (see my LEGO® creation thoughts on instagram for how). Her book is actually one of the reasons I started this 366 project. She talks about ideas leaving you if you don't commit to them. I have ideas for building with bricks helping people. I also wasn't ready to jump into full action on those ideas this year. But I didn't want the ideas to leave me, so this 366 project came to me and I say yes. Because it keeps me in the LEGO® zone and shows I am committed. And it's taking me to places I never expected to be - hello BrickFest and soon to be BrickFiesta. And I can't wait to really let my ideas come to fruition, hopefully next year, and be surprised where they take me then.
6/16/2016 0 Comments Creativity Leads to the Unexpected366 Days of Creativity Week 24 in Review: June 10th - June 16thI never could have predicted the creation I would make on Day 168. Never. It's just not me or my style.
The path was paved by my word of the year - "Magic." Since it's my word of the year I pay attention when I see or hear it. 6/9/2016 0 Comments Creativity Takes Action366 Days of Creativity Week 23 in Review: June 3rd - June 9thI've had a lot of quotes recently about not waiting for inspiration.
This is true. I've said before sometimes I have an idea of what to build after reading the art quote, but most of the time I just start building and then an idea will come. Then I rework the creation. I've discovered recently in life that knowing how inspiration and creativity work together has been very helpful. 6/2/2016 0 Comments Creativity and Yoga366 Days of Creativity Week 22 in Review: May 27th-June 2ndOne of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try out new yoga studios and classes.
I love my familiar yoga studio and home practice, but you also know I love to discover new things! 5/26/2016 1 Comment Creativity with Photos366 Days of Creativity Week 21 in Review: May 20th-26thYou may have noticed I've been branching out with trying to tell a story not only with the creations, but with how I photograph them.
5/19/2016 0 Comments Creativity When You Are Tired366 Days of Creativity Week 20 in Review: May 13th-19th & Days 134-140I've not wanted to build several days this week.
I've been busy, tired, and have too often left it until the end of the day, which is never good for me mentally. It was in those moments that I did it anyways, but at the same time I gave myself permission to do it differently, and I think in some ways it turned out more creative. 5/12/2016 4 Comments Creativity and Playing366 Days of Creativity Week 19 in Review: May 6th-12th & Days 127-133Okay, how to make re-writing this blog post that I accidentally deleted when trying to change the font size fun? Please leave comments and let me know :)
But I will go with the flow, and here we go! I have been inspired by a woman who works at a local yarn store. 5/5/2016 2 Comments Creativity and Protection366 Days of Creativity Week 18 in Review: April 29th-May 5th & Days 120-126 Day 124:
"Here stood a tangible symbol of the very meaning of working with intention - knowing both my gifts and my limits, my calling and my opportunities that need a 'no' and being at peace with understanding the difference. To give myself the time and freedom to create the best art, and to confidently turn down those roles and opportunities that aren't the best fit." -Tsh Oxenreider 4/28/2016 1 Comment Creativity and Compassion366 Days of Creativity Week 17 in Review: April 22nd-28th & Days 113-119 I feel like this week was about compassion. Maybe that's because my newsletter this week was about Brené Brown's guidepost on self-compassion so it was on my mind, but to me the quotes I pulled all tied into compassion:

I love that. I think this experiment in large part is about re-awakening my imagination. |
